Appeals

At DIAL we help clients who would like to appeal against their benefit result. If you are not successful with your benefit claim it is important that you act quickly as there are strict time limits for lodging Mandatory Reconsiderations and Appeals. You normally have one month from the date of the decisions.

Before DIAL can give advice about an appeal it is important that you follow the procedure and phone the DWP on the number on the decision letter and request a Mandatory Reconsideration. If you are still unhappy with the outcome of the reconsideration then you will need to complete an SSCS1 form to go forward for an appeal. Please contact us if you would like help with this form.

It is important that we see all the information used in the decision. The decision letter will tell you whether the DWP used any information in addition to your claim, for example they may have contacted your GP or hospital consultant although this rarely happens.

As soon as all the paperwork is received, including a copy of your claim form, please phone DIAL on 0333 366 1045 and ask to make an appointment for an appeal if you are still unhappy with the decision.

Our appeals staff will phone you and ask some questions relating to your disability. If we take on your case we will help you all through the case and we can now represent at the appeal hearing. Unfortunately we are unable to help everybody with their casework but we will still advise and go through your paperwork with you and look over any additional evidence that you want us to. In some circumstances we may be able to refer you for further help to another organisation.

If you would like to ask us anything about an appeal or would like someone to contact you please email us or give us a ring.
